July 10, 2005
Chick Kulp and Bruce Knoll are
planning a car show for Sunday, July 10th, at the West Point Village Park. 1 PM till dusk.
(Rain date July 17th.)
The theme will be
"Remembering Hatfield
Speedway"
For those of you that do not know the history, Hatfield Speedway was on Forty Foot road
across from Rosenberger's Dairy. On Saturday nights racers from all over would come and race
stock cars.
Farmers from the region complained that
due to the distraction, cows would not produce as much milk. The Speedway was shut down because
of community complaints.
"We're hoping to renew and rekindle something here.
We are hoping old speedwayers will get the message and show up for the car
show event."

15
seconds of fame
In the 1968 movie "Bullitt",
Don Gordon mentions West Point to Steve McQueen while reading an
article in the newspaper. The reference is to a mumps vaccine
developed by Merck Sharpe and Dohme.
