Renovating "The Nace Building"

Dottie DeStefano ran the West Point Deli here from 1977 to 2006.

In 1958 this was the site of "The Artic" market. Clayton Stauffer was the proprietor, according to West Point denizen Bruce Knoll.

The deli was renovated and re-opened on December 14, 2007 as "Skinny's Breakfast and Lunch." This is "Skinny" and his mom.

Skinny's didn't last long. In January 2008 it became "The Old San Juan," which also had a short life.

The building was again remodeled and opened as The Parkside Grille in April of 2008.

In the Summer of 2010 it opened as "Aleksandra Gourmet Cafe."

Finally, Craig Quinn opened the "Castaway Cafe" in January of 2012. (According to health inspection reports, the actual owners were George Romeril and Mike Andrake.) Like its predecessors, the Castaway Cafe had great food. Unfortunately the restaurant closed in December of 2013 when told by Hoff Properties to vacate the premises.

While the West Point Deli side of the building was changing owners over and over, Karen Wolf opened "The Shabby Attic" in 2005 and ran a successful business till Jeff Clemens sold the building to Hoff.

As a resident of West Point, one of my fears was that this historic building would be demolished and replaced with a common chain store, or some other business which would have little favorable impact upon the village. I believe that the renaissance of these two buildings is the best that could have happened to them. My thanks goes out to Hoff Properties.
